EDDISBURY is back in Conservative hands after Edward Timpson beat Terry Savage and Antoinette Sandbach to the seat.

The Tory MP won with 30,095 votes, beating Labour's Terry Savage's 11,652 and Liberal Democrat Antoinette Sandbach's 9,582.

Louise Jewkes, Green, and Andrea Allen, UKIP, picked up 1,191 and 451 votes respectively.

Speaking of his win, Mr Timpson said he had the local people at heart, and thnaked the people of Eddisbury for voting for him.

"I would like to thank my fellow Eddisbury residents and now my constituents for placing their confidence in me," said Mr Timpson.

"Everything I do here and in Westminster, I have local people at heart.

"My firm hope is that the people here tonight will take us forward.

"I am humbled to represent the readiness of the people of Eddisbury."

In an emotional speech, Antoinette Sandbach, former MP for Eddisbury who defected to the Liberal Democrats shortly before the election said she was humbled to represent the constituency.

"It has been my pleasure and privilege to serve as MP for Eddisbury for the last four years," said Ms Sandbach.

"As your former MP, I have left a strong legacy. Most of all, I have helped thousands of constituents.

"I could not vote for a deal I believe risks the union of the UK. For me, losing this seat is worth it.

"I thank those who have supported me for the last four years."

Meanwhile defeated Labour candidate Terry Savage was bullish about the loss, saying he was sceptical about the future of a Tory government.

"I hope, as a result of this election, the Conservatives are able to bring people together," said Mr Savage. "I somehow doubt that."
