A PUPIL from a school near Whitchurch has won the Bishop of St Asaph’s Christmas card competition.

Eva Nicholas, six, from Borderbrook VC School was one of almost one thousand entries into the annual competition, with joint second and third prizes being awarded to children in Whitford and Ruthin and Eglwysbach and Hawarden.

Eva, who comes from Whitchurch, was presented with her prize at a special whole school assembly, attended by Bishop Gregory and the diocesan director of Education and Lifelong Learning, Rosalind Williams.

The Rt Revd Gregory Cameron described Eva Nicholas’ design as representing “sheer happiness and joy” and has turned the image into Christmas cards which are being sent to his family, friends and colleagues around the world.

“I’m particularly delighted with this year’s design because of the sheer happiness and joy that the image represents," said Revd Gregory.

“Christians believe the message of Jesus’ birth is a message of joy to the world and that makes this design particularly fitting.

"Having met Eva, I realise this happiness and joy is a reflection her own personality.

"She was over the moon to have won and I was thrilled to have joined her and the rest of the school for their Wednesday worship.

“This year’s selection of pictures, as is always the case, shows a wealth of talent, with great care and attention being taken to the designs. And lots of colour.

"Thank you to everyone who entered the competition, the judging panel enjoyed looking at all the submissions.

“December is an important and busy time in all church schools as they reflect on the importance of Advent and look ahead to Christmas.”
