THE Whitchurch Chamber of Trade have met to discuss the latest updates regarding the town’s Business Improvement District (BID).

In a meeting, held on Monday, December 9 at Docket 33 in High Street, Mo Aswat of the Mosaic Partnership gave a presentation to a small, but engaged audience on how Whitchurch might benefit from a BID.

He stated that his company had finally been engaged in November to undertake a feasibility study on behalf of the town council to see if Whitchurch would benefit from becoming a BID town.

Because of the festive season the feasibility process will not complete until February when the matter will go to a vote.

At the meeting there was some confusion as the council had previously informed the Chamber of Trade that Mosaic had been engaged in September and that this process would be completed by November.

In the Whitchurch parish there are 476 businesses which could all be engaged in the whole town BID process, or it could possibly be a Destination BID which would primarily involve the centre of town and about 270 businesses.

During the feasibility study Mosaic will hold workshops to explain what a BID actually is and meet with at least 20 per cent of all businesses to discuss what business owners and vested interests see as potential projects for Whitchurch.

These projects could be funded by the small annual levy on each business.
