FORMER rugby star Gareth Thomas has stopped off in Wem and Whitchurch as part of a fundraising bike ride across Great Britain.

Thomas, who played 100 times Wales, is taking on a gruelling 500 mile four-wheeled bike ride from Cardiff to Aberdeen to deliver the Sports Personality of the Year trophy to the awards show, to be held on Sunday, December 15.

On day two of the journey Gareth and his team stopped off for lunch at the Castle in Wem, with unconfirmed reports that he stopped off for carrot and coriander soup.

On the trip Gareth is being joined by various celebrity guests on his quattrocycle, including Love Island's Montana Rose Brown, Blue Peter presenter Richie Driss and Sports broadcaster Rachel Stringer.

The bike ride is also helping raise money for Sport Relief, in what is being called the Tour de Trophy and to donate to Gareth's fundraiser, visit bbc.co.uk/sportrelief
