ONE OF the key organisers of the Blackberry Fair has thanked all those who help make the event a success.

The Blackberry Fair is an annual parade in Whitchurch that celebrates all things different and in 2019 had an added eco-friendly theme.

While incredibly popular, the event is also expensive to put together and this year required donations from the community to raise enough money.

Organiser Steve Chapman has thanked everyone involved with this year's running of the event, but has also stressed that it may not return for 2020.

"A big thank you on behalf of everyone who stepped up to create the magic that was Whitchurch Blackberry Fair 2019, you've every reason to feel very proud of yourselves," said Steve.

"Feedback from visitors, artists and traders alike was tremendous.

"From climate emergency exhibitions to faerie markets and wacky tower clocks, we never aim to make it the best, simply to be distinctive and different.

"Staging and delivering a free at source town festival is a massive challenge and it's the enduring spirit of a small bunch of fantastic souls along with the generosity of others who've made it what it's become.

"That's the power of positive action, setting aside differences and getting on with it.

"The reality is such that increasing costs and responsibility mean the fair's future now hangs in the balance, so it's with a tinge of sadness that we'll let you know if Blackberry Fair returns in 2020 and beyond.

"We've met and made some fabulous friends from Glasgow to St Albans with Welshampton in-between.

"Whitchurch and north Shropshire is home to some amazingly creative, talented and committed people.

"Thank you to everyone in the community who's supported us for 12 years."
