WEM will turn on their Christmas lights next week and there will be a special guest flicking the switch.

Stand up and TV comic Greg Davies will be the one doing the honours, but the light switch on is just one of many events going on throughout the evening.

The parade through the town will take place as 5.45pm and at 6.30pm the Snow Queen will be crowned and the town will be blessed by Reverend Nick Heron.

Mayor of Wem Phil Glover will give a short speech before the lights are switched on.

The mayor will then judge the best shop window with Snow Queen Megan Williams before a performance from Wem Jubilee Band at the town hall at 6.45pm.

And at 8pm there will be a grand prize draw at the town hall.

Throughout the evening there will be various activities throughout the town, including craft stalls in the church hall and the town hall as well as various stalls around the town.

Father Christmas and his reindeer will be present in Jubilee Square, along with members of the Rotary Club, Wem Scouts and the Tree of Light.

The Christmas lights and festival will take place on Friday, December 6 and one the day there will be free parkign throughout the town from 2pm.

High Street will also be closed on the evening, between 5pm and 8pm.
