MEMBERS of Wem Guides and Rangers have been doing their part to help the environment by holding a zero waste sleepover.

On October 30, girls from the two groups met at the scout hut for a sustainable sleepover.

The girls survived the evening without sweets in plastic wrappers, and also used food that had been left over from a camp in the summer to cook some various dishes including a curry and a bread pudding, using bread from the Wem food hub.

During the evening the group discussed the issues with plastic and discovered just how much plastic was in one room, let alone around Wem itself.

The girls also made bees wax wraps, which are an eco-friendly alternative to kitchen roll and tin foil, which they are hoping more people will start using.
