Residents of all ages were given their chance to make some apple juice in Audlem and learn about sustainability.

There was an apple pressing session held at the Buttermarket, in the centre of the town, on Saturday morning with youngsters encouraged to bring their own to be turned into juice.

Chris Knibbs, from Audlem and District Acting Positively for Transition (ADAPT), a group which is encouraging people to look at ways to become more sustainable, was delighted to be leading the way.

"We've been a sustainability group here for the last decade," he said. "Days like this really help get our message out and they're fun too, with the press.

"We've been giving advice on energy and ways to be sustainable and we have a transport group that looks at different ways people can save energy, including cycling.

"We have put together a cycling map for residents and that's been viewed more than 12,000 times on the website and had 20,000 hits.

"Our routes are minor roads and cover around the area of Whitchurch."

Volunteers at ADAPT showed visitors, old and young, how the apple press works and made juice from their donated fruit.

Chris added that they are also pushing for Audlem to become carbon neutral in the coming years.
