SEVERAL rail and road routes in and around Whitchurch have been disrupted by flooding.

Heavy rain on Friday and Saturday, backed by a Met Office yellow weather warning, meant train services were cancelled and roads rendered inpassable.

Rail lines between Shrewsbury and Crewe and Shrewsbury and Wrexham have closed because of flooding.

Buses are running between these stations, however National Rail say the service is extremely limited and there is potential for the roads to also be affected by the bad weather.

Transport for Wales meanwhile are advising customers not to travel on these routes unless it is absolutely necessary.

Numerous roads have been affected by the weather, most notable the A525 between Whitchurch and Nantwich.

The A525 between Whitchurch and Wrexham has also been affected by flooding, as has the A41 towards Chester and the A49 towards Shrewsbury.

West Mercia Police are asking people to be careful on the roads and to only travel when necessary.

A spokesman for the force said: "We are experiencing a high volume of calls due to the weather.

"Many roads throughout the West Mercia policing area are flooded or closed. Please travel only if necessary and drive to suit the weather conditions."
