A SLICE of Broadway could be found at Thomas Adams in Wem this month as they presented their annual school production.

This year students evoked the jazz era in America – merry murderesses, slick shady lawyers and profiteering prison wardens were all represented in a performance of Chicago.

The pupils certainly gave a razzle dazzle performance, with almost 100 students involved onstage, in the jazz band and in backstage roles.

The show opened with the whole cast raising the roof with a professional rendition of All That Jazz.

Playing Velma Kelly, Megan Hardiman channelled the spirit of the age with an exuberant performance of the song, while the ensemble, chorus and other cast members tackled the excellent Bob Fosse choreography.

And Nathaniel Davenhill, playing exploitative lawyer, Billy Flynn, was the incarnation of Frank Sinatra, exuding confidence and stage presence.

After the performance, many of those who attended commented that it was as good as they had seen on the professional stage.

Headteacher Mark Cooper said the show was a wonderful reminder of the hard work, dedication and sheer joy going on the school from students and teachers alike.

"The whole show was a tremendous achievement for all involved," said Mark

"A huge thank you for the dedication and commitment of all the students and staff that made the show such a success."
