A TEAM of fundraisers from Malpas have raised a considerable sum of money by climbing one of Africa's most fearsome mountains.

The Tute family, including Robbie, Matthew, David, Annie, Bill and Sam, climbed Kilimanjaro in September, with the aim of raising £500 for Dementia UK.

But through their fundraising efforts, the family more than exceeded their goal, raising more than £2,000 in total.

Bill, who works at Hampton Vets, decided to raise money for Dementia UK after losing his mother Floss to the disease.

"Everybody’s mum is special. But I make no excuse when it comes to my mum," said Bill.

"To watch her fall victim to vascular dementia for the last few years of her life has been indescribably sad and difficult time for us all.

"So, when we decided a trip to Africa should involve climbing Kilimanjaro we felt to raise money for a charity to benefit other sufferers of dementia would be an appropriate goal in memory and to celebrate the life of Floss.

"We know she would have loved to be involved with this adventure, in fact, there would be no holding her back if she had the opportunity.

"The week long trek was an unforgettable experience.

"We met an amazing group of people, from the head guide Julius John White, the incredible guides and porters who made the trek achievable, and our fellow walkers.

"One of the most physically and mentally challenging experiences I have undertaken and in the process we raised over £2000."
