A FORMER Liverpool captain who led the side to a European Cup triumph will be visiting a football club near Oswestry.

Phil Thompson, who works as a pundit on Sky Sports, will be in attendance for Trefonen FC’s Sportsman’s Lunch on Sunday, November 3.

The defender, who played for Liverpool and Sheffield United, played more than 500 times, winning seven league titles, one FA Cup, two League Cups and three European Cups.

Thompson was also caretaker manager for part of the 2001/2002 season.

Also in attendance will be comedian Jed Stone, to provide even more entertainment.

Tickets for the event are on sale now and can be bought from the club.

The event itself will take place between 12pm and 7pm at Morda Village Hall.

Tickets cost £35 per person – tables of eight can be bought for £280, or tables of 10 for £350.

Anyone wishing to find out more about the event can do so by contacting the club through its Facebook page.
