A JUMBLE sale took place in Whitchurch on Saturday to raise funds for St John's Methodist Church.

The church has been undertaking improvements to make it 'accessible for all', including making the site more wheelchair-friendly and improving access from the road.

Guests to the church were welcomed with refreshments, including hot drinks and biscuits, and an array of stalls selling everything from second hand clothes, books and bric-a-brac to children's teddies and games.

Lynn Fowler, a member of the church, said that the jumble sale was to gather support and funds towards ongoing works.

"All funds raised will go to the church," she said. "We've had a lot of work done for disabled access – new ramps put in and flattened paths."

Mike Nimmo, also a member of the church, was keen to show that the funds being raised were being put to good use outdoors with the raising of footpaths to for ease of access for disabled users.

"The money raised will make up the shortfall in money needed for the improvements after grants," he said.

"We are still hoping to raise funds to make the inside of the church more community-friendly, and to get a new roof and heating system."
