A CHARITY event took place in a popular cafe near Whitchurch on Saturday.

The fundraiser, a car boot sale, was held at Ma Baker's, Prees Heath, in aid of Hope House Children's Hospice.

One of its organisers, Des Clorley from Quina Brook, was delighted to be able to do something for the charity that he describes as 'marvelous'.

"Every penny is going to Hope House," said Des, a location driver for film and television.

"This is our second car boot sale, the first took place last month.

"Dave who runs Ma Baker's came up with the idea of the sale and has let us use the car park for the stalls.

"We've got some people here with stalls from Shrewsbury.

"[Hope House] do a fantastic job.

"Some of the kids you meet, it makes your eyes swell.

"My niece works there and she does a marvelous job."

There were many items to browse and bargains to be had, including musical instruments, clothes, games, books and a six foot Winnie The Pooh teddy, which managed to achieve an offer of £80.

The car boot sale also caught the attention of health care assistant Sharon Love and nursing assistant Ali Downes of the Severn Hospice, who popped by in between jobs to grab a bargain.
