MORE than £1,000 was raised at a Whitchurch charity event as part of a nationwide fundraiser.

A coffee morning took place at The White Lion pub last month, to coincide with the annual, World's Biggest Coffee Morning for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The community pub, situated in Ash Magna, put on a special lunch and many prizes kindly donated by Whitchurch businesses, were up for grabs.

There was a raffle and auction, and cakes and sweet treats aplenty, as visitors helped raise money for the cancer charity.

Sue Hayes, one of the organisers, was delighted with the figure raised and thanked everyone who donated.

"The support we had was amazing and we raised £1,000 for Macmillan," she said.

Dan Beeston, assistant manager at The White Lion was overwhelmed with the turnout.

"It was very well attended – quite incredible really," he said.

"It was such a lovely event, we made so much money and it's for such a good cause.

"I was overwhelmed to be honest. It was fantastic."
