VISITORS flocked to Wem last weekend to take in the smells, sights and sounds of the town's harvest market.

The market, held on Saturday, September 28, saw more than 50 different traders set up shop in various places around town and offered everything from food and drink, to homemade crafts and other creations.

All of the produce and products on sale were from the local area, within 30 miles of Wem and included some well known names from the region.

The town hall and the senior club both gave a home to the traders on the day, with various charities setting up shop on Jubilee Square.

To entice visitors to the town, on the day the Edinburgh House car park was free to park on the Saturday morning.

In addition, a free park and ride service was operated by North Salop Wheelers throughout the morning between the Bowensfield car park and central Wem.

Shelagh Richardson, from Wem Combine Harvesters, said: "The market was very successful, far busier than the Spring Market.

"We had 50 plus stalls of food, drink, crafts, and plants across town hall, Senior Club and Jubilee Square.

"Traders commented on the kindness of Wemians, particularly a trader new to Wem, who got lost and stopped to get her bearings.

"A cyclist tapped on her window to say that she was obviously going to the market and would be wanting the town hall. Gave her directions, did a quick toodle pip and cycled off."

As well as the stalls, there was also a raffle held, with Manjit Chahal and Thelma Pugh both winning themselves a food hamper from the Co-op.
