A CHARITY coffee morning in Marbury has raised a significant sum of money for a resident suffering from a rare and incurable disease.

The coffee morning was organised by twins Adeline and Sue von Dinther at Marbury Village Hall to raise funds for the charity Ataxia UK on Saturday, September 28.

Sue is one of only 10,000 people in the UK suffering from ataxia – a disease which disrupts messages sent to the nervous system, affecting balance and co-ordination and resulting in slurred speech, falls, tremors and fatigue.

The disease is progressive, and currently there is no cure.

More than 100 people from Marbury and the surrounding area enjoyed cake and coffee, and their donations raised over £2,200.

Many of the contributions were sponsorship for Adeline, who had her hair dyed pink during the event, and to show support Rev. Veronica Green and several men had their hair tinted pink – albeit temporarily.

After the event the twins were overwhelmed by the amount of support shown.

“We’d like to say a huge thank you to all who came to the coffee morning and those who helped," said Sue.

"It was not only a wonderful demonstration of community spirit but it raised awareness of ataxia and its effects, and we’re overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity and good wishes.”
