RIDERS were back in the saddle this month to contend the second rounds of the National Amateur series at Tushingham Arena.

The Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds saw the 85cm, 95cm, 1.05m and 1.10m second round classes all competing with all combinations hoping to secure a place at the National Amateur Championships at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool in November.

In the 1.05m round, ten combinations managed to produce a clear and six of those pulled a double clear out of the bag and secured their place in the final.

The remaining two tickets were down to the clock as four of the combinations picked up faults.

Sixteen year-old Rachel Basnett from Deeside, Clywd fought off some strong competition to take the win in the 1.05m second round with Sally Basnett’s Sircarno, a 12 year-old British bred bay gelding by Locarno.

They posted the fastest round of the class with a double clear in 36.69 seconds.

Close behind in the runners up spot was Shannon Sheffield and Judith Mellody’s Contessa M with a 38.61 and Julie Dimelow and Narcotique who finished with a 40.55.
