STUDENTS have gained a 100 per cent pass rate in a new leadership and management course launched at a Ellesmere College.

The 10 pupils all finished top of the class in the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM3) course at the college.

Launched last September, the course is suitable for those aged over 16 who hold or are looking to take on positions of responsibility.

It helps young leaders further develop the skills to lead others confidently and effectively.

Dr Tom Gareh, head of sixth form at Ellesmere College, says he is delighted with the results on what is viewed as a difficult course.

“We are delighted with this outstanding result - a 100 per cent pass rate for a new course which few schools are able to achieve," said Dr Gareh.

“Congratulations to the pupils and Chris Garratt, head of history, classics and politics at the school, who coached the pupils through each stage of the award process and instructed them on different leadership models and styles.

“This innovative course allows pupils to gain a range of key management skills that can be put into practice, build leadership capabilities and bring out leadership potential, which may be of benefit in college roles such as stepping forward to be a prefect or a sports team captain.

“It also strengthens employment applications, supports and enhances UCAS and other course applications, professional development and career progression, and increases self-confidence.

“The course results in official accreditation which is useful across a range of employment, career and educational settings.

“We are proud at Ellesmere College of our commitment to provide a wealth of opportunities for pupils inside and outside the classroom.

This provides another option for students to add to their accomplishments, as part of the extra suite of co-curricular offerings we have at the college.

“We believe that while leadership qualities manifest themselves in many different ways, leaders and entrepreneurs share a number of characteristics. These are strengthened by pupils being placed in demanding situations which provide the confidence, skills and awareness to develop and stand them in good stead in the future.

“This first course has been an outstanding success, something we are now carrying forward confidently into a second course during the new school year.”
