A UNIQUE place to be laid to rest is getting an expansion thanks to public demand.

Soulton Long Barrow, located near Wem, is a monument specifically designed for holding cremation ashes as an alternative to a typical cemetery.

Inspired by ancient burial mounds the barrow is already reaching capacity, necessitating beginning phase two of the build.

With the beginning of phase two, builders have established the work area and created a natural perimeter to ensure nothing will disturb the the first chamber and barrow forecour

Toby Angel, from Sacred Stones who construct the barrow, says the construction of phase two owes to the popularity of the structure.

"We've started phase two of the build as the first phase was so successful," said Toby.

"We've been bowled over by people's enthusiasm. The second phase has begun based on demand.

"Part of the build is about sensitively managing the landscape but it's about the public embracing the idea.

"It's within the plans to increase the size, as we've had these plans in the pipeline for four years now. It was just a question of when to start"
