THE regular monthly meeting of the Twinning Committee was held this week at the Dodington Lodge in Whitchurch.

At the meeting, held on Tuesday, September 17, chairman Andy Allen received the scrapbook and the items of memorabilia that had been displayed on the stall at the Queensway Car Boot on Sunday, August 18, for safe-keeping until they would be needed again.

Meanwhile treasurer Russ Symons, who was unable to attend, reported via the secretary that £26.70 had been raised.

Secretary Val Webb had received an email from France, requesting dates for their visit next year and several possible dates were discussed.

The committee concluded that next year’s May Bank Holiday will be on May 8 to commemorate VE Day, that date was unlikely to be suitable.

Other considerations were school holidays and what events were going on in the town.

The committee say that until they know the composition of the group and the availability of members willing to host, it is difficult to finalise the invitation.

Committee members also discussed a suggestion from one of the French members that a group from L’Harmonie Municipale might be accompanying the Jumelage.

Members await confirmation of numbers and whether it will be adults or young people or a mix of the two but add that it would be good if a musical theme could be incorporated in the visit in the event that the band does come.

The next meeting will be held at 7.30pm on Tuesday, October 8 at the Dodington Lodge, Whitchurch.

All interested parties are welcome to attend and membership enquiries should be directed to Val Webb on 01948 663948.
