STAFF at a Wem opticians have swapped their uniforms for onesies and held a slumber party to raise money for charity.

Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care in High Street took on the new look and had a cake sale ahead of World Alzheimer’s Day on Saturday, September 21 to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s Society.

As well as raising awareness through the cake sale, the branch also donated £1 for every hearing screening undertaken between September 16 and September 21.

Melanie Mort from Scrivens said: “We wanted to do something fun as Alzheimer’s Society is our chosen charity and World Alzheimer’s Day brings home the need for continued research and support.

"It’s a cause we care about because dementia affects the lives of so many people in our community.

“We’re grateful to everyone who has made donations to the cause.”

Scrivens is supporting Alzheimer’s Society for a fifth successive year because of what they say is a growing link between uncorrected hearing loss and dementia, including Alzheimer’s.
