OSWESTRY is celebrating getting another gold award for its vibrant floral displays.

In the annual Heart of England floral competition, Oswestry received top marks in the Large Town category, after it was marked on horticultural excellence, environmental elements and its work in the community.

Oswestry in Bloom chairman Betty Gull was very happy with the result – which was announced on Thursday in Rugby – and thanked the people of Oswestry for working 'jolly hard'.

"We were judged on a number of elements, from environmental factors such as how we conserve water and help wildlife, our work in the community and what the town looks like," she added.

"It's true that people feel much happier in an attractive environment.

"The whole thing is only successful though if we have the people of Oswestry behind us who do all the hard work with their own displays.

"We at In Bloom hold our own awards and it is well supported, we then tell the Heart of England judges what we do in our own competition.

"We are just absolutely delighted when we are successful but we then have to take a big breath and think what we can do to be better next year.

"I'm very pleased... Oswestry's got the gold!"
