A YOUNG cyclist from Wem has continued his winning streak by taking top spot in the first round of the West Midlands Cyclo-Cross League.
Isaac Vickery, who represents Mid Shropshire Wheelers, was one of 165 junior (U8-U16) cyclo-cross riders from the region kicking off their 2019-20 season on the high speed course at Shrewsbury Sports Village.
The racing was competitive across all age groups but especially in the U10s and U12s races where more than 40 riders entered each race.
In cyclo-cross, junior riders spend two seasons in each age group, Year 1 is usually used to build confidence and Year 2 to be competitive at the front of the race.
The Mid Shropshire Wheelers broke this trend though with all three podium sitters of the U10 category competing in their first year.
Isaac Vickery finished first in his group, beating Jude White of Four Crosses, into second place, and Senen Brown from Cardeston, into third.
Round two takes place at Redditch on September 15.
