THE son of a former Whitchurch Citizen of the Year is proving fundraising is in the family by preparing to climb two mountains for charity.

Mike Rollins, son of Gwyneth Rollins, who was made Citizen of the Year in 2016 for her fundraising efforts, will climb the Tanzanian mountains of Meru and Kilimanjaro later this year to raise money for Severn Hospice.

He will be joined by his friend Ivar Bundulis, who personally will be raising money for Cancer Research UK, and the pair plan to climb Meru on September 20 and Kilimanjaro a week later on September 26.

The trip is being completely self funded, but the Severn Hospice shop and the White Bear, both on Whitchurch High Street, are supporting the venture, with the latter holding a raffle to support the climb.

Speaking of the expedition, Mike said: "Our trip is totally self funded so any money we raise will go to charity.

"My charity is Severn Hospice, a charity close to my heart, as they gave very good care to my dad at the end of his life."
