A WOMAN from Whitchurch has been named Whitchurch Slimming World's ‘Woman of the Year’.

Dot Gidge, 38, has slimmed down from 18 stone to a remarkable14 stone and 10 pounds.

Slimming World’s Woman of the Year competition celebrates the achievements of women who have made long-term healthy lifestyle changes.

Dot, who down-sized from a dress size 20 to a 12/14, said: “When I first joined group I never dreamt that I would be in the position I am now.

"Losing weight has made such a big difference to my life. My health has improved, I have more energy, I’m happier and I feel more comfortable in my own skin.”

Dot joined Slimming World in May 2017 after feeling unhappy about her size.

“I started to put on weight during my teenager years and as I got bigger and bigger the exercising became impossible," added Dot.

"I tried a number of different ways to lose weight but they usually left me feeling hungry or miserable. With Slimming World it’s completely different.

“I feel like a different woman to the one who walked into Slimming World and winning Woman of the Year is a real honour because there are so many amazing women in our group.

Tina Hayward, who runs the Wem and Whitchurch groups, said: “I’m so proud of Dot. She’s a fantastic ambassador for Slimming World and what she’s achieved is nothing short of incredible."

The groups meet on Wednesdays at Wem Methodist Church and Thursdays at Whitchurch Civic Centre. To join or find out more call Tina on 07894 225813.
