A NEW mini-roundabout which is currently being built outside the new Morrisons superstore on Shrewsbury Road in Oswestry has caused some confusion with motorists travelling out of town.

People approaching the roundabout, which has an exit onto College Road and into the development which is currently under construction, were left confused after a lack of road markings.

This led to some people overlooking it altogether, causing a few near misses between vehicles.

Mayor of Oswestry, Councillor John Price was concerned with the feedback he had received about the ‘inadequate markings’ and although the roundabout is yet to be completed, vowed to pass on peoples’ concerns to Councillor Steve Davenport in the Highways department of Shropshire Council.

“I agree with the comments I’ve had really. I don’t think the markings on the road were adequate enough,” he said.

“The situation is only temporary though as the roundabout isn’t completed yet.

“It is work in progress at the moment.

“I passed on comments to Steve Davenport at Shropshire Council straight away though. I wasn’t able to get hold of the manager at Morrisons.

“But I’ve seen now that four-way temporary traffic lights have been installed there which is great.

“Only half the roundabout has been finished so far, so in the meantime the traffic lights put in will help.

“A little bit of patience and diligence will ensure that there is no further issues.

“We’ll get round the issue eventually,” he added.
