SHROPSHIRE has been named as the second best place to retire to in the UK, according to one property website.
The ten best retirement locations have been rated on a number of factors such as the travel time to GP surgeries and hospitals, life expectancies and the number of bungalows in an area and Shropshire was placed number two, after Cornwall.
Although retiring sometimes means moving closer to friends and family, or choosing a place with breathtaking beaches and idyllic countryside, property website Zoopla believes there are other practical considerations to take into account such as a need for good public transport links and easily accessible healthcare.
According to the Zoopla, the average property price in the county is £272,151 and there are 64,140 bungalows.
It also states that the average time to get to a GP surgery, either by walking or by public transport is 17 minutes and to the hospital is 28 minutes.
As for its 'happiness' ratings, those who voted saw the county be rated as 76.5 per cent for level of happiness.
