FOLLOWING excellent A and AS level results last week Llanfyllin High School students have once again achieved very pleasing GCSE results.

Headteacher Dewi Owen said: "We are very proud of the achievements of our students, which reflect how hard they have worked."

There were a number of individual students who achieved exceptional results, with six students achieving all A*and A grades.

The percentage of students achieving five or more A* or A grades has improved again this year with a 24 per cent improvement in pupils securing the top grades.

"Results are outstanding in a number of subject areas, for example 100 per cent of students achieved grades A* or A in Additional Maths, Chinese, and Spanish. 100 per cent of students gained A* to C grades in fine art, textiles, engineering and photography.

"In combination with their GCSEs, many students completed vocational courses across a range of subjects and their levels of achievement are equally impressive with a 100 per cent pass rate in BTEC qualifications, including sport and engineering. Performing arts and agriculture students were particularly successful with 100 per cent achieving Distinction or Distinction* grades.

The school is particularly pleased with the improvement in results when measured against the Welsh Government’s new ‘Capped 9’ key performance indicator.

"These results not only reflect the excellent effort and attitude of the students but also the hard work and diligence shown by our highly committed staff, supported and encouraged by parents and governors," added Mr Owen.

"This bodes well for the future as so many of our pupils return in September to embark on A level courses in one of the largest sixth forms in Powys.

"Llongyfarchiadau i bawb – Congratulations to all!"
