AN OSWESTRY charity has received a donation of more than £400 from a local rotary club to help fund one of its youth development projects.

Oswestry Cambrian Rotary has donated £452 to Qube to support its ongoing development of youth music activities in the town.

The support from Oswestry Cambrian Rotary Club has come after Qube’s very successful Wizards of Os project in 2018/19, which was funded by Youth Music.

From October 2018 until May 2019, 20 young people from the Oswestry area had the opportunity to work with professional musicians on a weekly basis to develop their musical skills.

They took part in band-building activities and had the opportunity to learn performance and stage-craft skills.

The project led to a final showcase performance at the Hermon Chapel Arts Centre where the young people performed in front of a sell-out crowd in May.

Qube’s Arts Development Officer, Jim Creed, said: “We really appreciate the support Oswestry Cambrian Rotary has given us and it will make a big difference to our youth music programme.

“We will use the money to offer a number of free music sessions for young people living in and around Oswestry.”

Qube is now hoping to develop a new youth music project in 2019/20 giving young people the opportunity to work with professional musicians to gain new skills, increase their confidence and make new friends.

President of Oswestry Cambrian Rotary Club, Ron Pugh, said: “We are really impressed with Qube’s youth music project as it gives local young people the opportunity to learn from professionals and get involved with music activities.

“It also supports our focus on youth-based projects and activities in and around Oswestry.”
