A WEM man who walked overnight from Whitchurch to Kidderminster has raised around £700 for two causes in the town.

Selwyn Sanders left St Alkmund’s Church in Whitchurch at the stroke of midnight on Saturday, August 10, and arrived at his destination, 50 miles away, later that day, taking 20 hours and 40 minutes.

Selwyn volunteers for the Wem Good Neighbours Scheme and Wem Youth Club, and raised money for both groups, and he was delighted to have helped raise so much money, but quickly thanked all those who supported him, including the town’s Baptist church.

“The walk went really well,” said Selwyn.

“I got to Ironbridge about 8am and then it was getting difficult for my legs and my feet.

“I want to thank Wem Baptist Church for their prayers; it felt like God was with me, especially when I was walking in the early hours, which was magical.

“When the clouds cleared, I saw some ‘space debris’ which was great, and thank you to everyone who donated.”
