Hunters from as far afield as Shrewsbury, Ellesmere and Oswestry took part in the annual Whixall Treasure Hunt last Sunday.

With the sun shining and the rain staying away, more than 100 people, making up 29 individual competing teams, set off on bikes and by foot from Whixall Social Centre to pit their wits against the village cryptic clues, picture clues and scavenger hunt challenges set by Emma Trow and Emma Jones – the Treasure Hunt Masters.

The five-mile, two-hour route through the winding roads and lanes of Whixall, took in the rural countryside and the hamlets of Stanley Green, Hollinwood, Welsh End and Ladywell – each area with its own clues and challenges to discover and figure out.

On return to the Whixall Social Centre, teams were able to rest and enjoy beefburgers, freshly made cakes and other refreshments as their answers were being marked. This year saw 4 teams tie for first place and tie breaker questions were given to determine first to third places.

The winners were team Welsh Dragons, the runners up were team Milk Round and third place went to the Best Team in the Hub.

All proceeds from the event go towards the upkeep and maintenance of the social centre.

The Whixall Social Centre Committee would like to thank all those who came and took part; all those who donated raffle prizes and, of course, friends and family who helped out on the day to make it such a great success.
