A BOY from Wem has become mountain biking champion in his age group after winning every race.

Isaac Vickery of Wem, representing Mid Shropshire Wheelers, has become the Midlands U8 Mountain Bike Champion and overall series winner after winning all five of the series races that have taken place so far.

The races took place in Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Shropshire with Isaac taking on the the various counties top riders.

Isaac trains three times a week on his carbon fibre Scott Sclae Hardtail and says his favourite place to ride is through the Welsh hills at Coed y Brenin, often completing 25 mile off road rides there.

Isaac will now take on the best riders Wales has to offer on August 18 in the last round of the Welsh Mountain Bike Championships

And on September 1 Isaac will travel up to Peebles in Scotland to take on riders on their home turf.

Isaac will soon move onto his cyclo-cross bike to defend his West Midlands Cyclo-cross league title which he won last year, with the first race taking place on September 8 in Shrewsbury.

Over 350 riders are expected across all age groups, but Isaac will move up to the U10 category and have to ride against boys over a year older than himself.
