A father-of-four seriously injured following an assault in Wrexham town centre during the early hours of Sunday has died.
The local man, in his 30’s, was taken to The Royal University Hospital in Stoke after North Wales Police were called to a report of a man having been found unconscious on College Street near the steps leading up to St Giles’ Church after 1.30am.
An 18-year-old local man is being held in custody on suspicion of murder.
DCI Gary Kelly said: “This tragic and senseless death has devastated a family and left four young children without a father.
"Our investigations are on-going; however, we are not looking for any other suspects in relation to this matter.
“There may well be members of the public who witnessed the incident and who have yet to come forward. Given the tragic circumstances I would urge anyone with information to contact us.
Chief Inspector Mark Williams, responsible for community policing, added; “This has been a dreadful incident and there will be high visibility patrols in the area providing reassurance, but I would stress that Wrexham and North Wales in general remains one of the safest places in the United Kingdom.”
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have information should contact the North Wales Police on 101 quoting reference X111342.
