ELLESMERE’s new Ladies Softball Cricket team have played their first ever tournament recently, winning two out of their three matches.

On Sunday, July 21 the Elles Mares played at the Shropshire Cricket Board Soft Ball Festival at Madeley Cricket Club where they were joined by 11 other teams.

The team started this season at Ellesmere Cricket Club (ECC), bringing together a range of experience and ability with the idea of getting involved in the fast growing Softball Cricket initiative from the England and Wales Cricket Board.

The team have had great fun learning the basics of the game, practicing their new found skills and growing in confidence despite their first season being affected by rain.

A spokesman for ECC congratulated the team for their efforts competing in their first tournament.

They said: "Congratulations to the Elles Mares ECC's Ladies Softball team. Today they successfully competed in their first cricket festival and won two of their three games.

"Everyone played incredibly well and deserved their wins.

"Great cricket Heather Edwards, Anna Shore, Joy Ford, Pip Elms, Jodie Critchell and skipper Lauren Jones. Well done all."
