Crewe Alexandra 8

WHITCHURCH Alport found themself derailed in their latest pre-season friendly by a ruthless Crewe Alexandra side, who put eight goals past the home side.

The visitors turned up to Yockings Park with a near-full strength side and thrilled the almost 500-strong crowd with some scintillating football.

Eddie Nolan pounced inside two minutes to lay down a marker and Paul Taylor fired firmly beyond Jack Atkinson 15 minutes later.

To Alport’s credit they worked hard from first to last and put together several very good chances.

Arron Johns was a yard or two away from converting Ben Chilcott’s excellent cross but two goals in five minutes from Chris Porter and Harry Pickering soon had the Reds four adrift by half-time.

Jud Ellis and Dylan Bath both went close for Alport, who held out until just past the hour when Porter grabbed his second.

Two minutes later Ollie Finney bundled the ball into the net from close range and Alex turned the screw, with goalkeeper Atkinson making a couple of brilliant saves.

He denied Owen Bale on two separate occasions and with just 10 minutes left the crowd nearly got what they came for. Former Crewe youngster Luke Walley brought a magnificent save out of Dave Richards but two goals in the last five minutes from James Jones and Connor Heath completed the scoring for the evening.

Despite the rout, Alport earned immense credit against the League Two side.
