WHITCHURCH Country Markets has joined in in celebrating the organisation's 100th birthday.
Country Markets is a national organisation which specialises in home-baked and the Whitchurch branch has been in operation for 64 years.
On Friday members of the Whitchurch branch celebrated the centenary with a cake cutting celebration, joined by deputy mayor of Whitchurch, Terry O'Neill.
The group also had a display of the awards they had won over the years, as well as some free samples of their latest work.
Cllr O'Neill was particularly happy with the effect of the Country Markets on visitors the town, saying that people are often surprised and impressed by what's on offer.
"When you think about it, grassroots groups like this is how the markets started," said Cllr O'Neill.
"Through the years things have changed, so it's nice to see traditional values being brought to the town.
"A lot of visitors don't see things like this where they're from. They're often overawed with what's on offer because they're so used to supermarkets."
Country Markets are one of several stalls who have recently made to move over to the main hall of the Civic Centre, from the sports hall.
The move is being trialled for six months, but early views on the move have been positive.
