AN OSWESTRY cricketer is set to become the most recent member of his family to feature for Shropshire county.

Xavie Clarke is set to make his debut this Sunday when Shropshire take on Cornwall in the Unicorns Championship.

He follows in the footsteps of his brothers Joe and Robbie, as well as becoming the fifth Oswestry player to currently be involved at county level cricket.

Xavie joins Oswestry teammates Joe Carrasco, Warrick Fynn and Ben Roberts in the squad for the game which will begin at Bridgnorth on Sunday.

Roman Walker is the other Oswestry player who is presently playing county cricket.

Shropshire’s chairman of selectors Bryan Jones said: “It’s good to have Warrick back in the side and Xavie comes in to make his debut.

"He’s part of Worcestershire’s Academy and rated highly by both Joe and Warrick, who have seen a lot of him at Oswestry.”

The first ball will be bowled at Bridgnorth at 11am on Sunday, with admission free for spectators on all three days.
