WEM’S Christmas Lights and Festival Committee are hoping a special townsperson will be responsible for switching on the lights this year.

The group did not allude to any individual in particular, but did reveal other plans for this year’s festive celebrations.

Christmas lights will be provided by the group throughout Wem High Street, with the festival planned for Friday, December 6 between 4pm and 8pm.

The festival will feature a parade which will see the Town Crier, Santa, Wem Town mayor and mayoress, Wem Snow Queen, reindeer and sleigh and more take part in a lantern parade.

This year’s festival will feature more craft stalls than previous years.

Secretary of the group Liz Broomhall said: “Thank you for helping our festival be such a success last year.

“We hope you will all be involved again.”

Anyone wanting stalls on the road, Town Square or indoors at Wem Town Hall, contact Liz on 01939 232573, or 07729 181249.
