A STUDENT nurse from Whitchurch is taking on a series of fundraising ventures to fund a placement in Vietnam.

Meg Davey studies at Staffordshire University, and as part of her course is planning to go on placement to Vietnam, to work with their healthcare system for a month.

To fund this trip, Meg will be holding a number of fundraisers, including a fun day in Bettisfield on August 18, as well as making and selling soap.

Meg is taking part in the elective via Work the World, who specialise in overseas healthcare placements in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

"As students we now pay £9,250 per year to study," said Meg. "We work full time on placements which we don't get paid for, while trying to work full time, along with the coursework we also have to do and it's exhausting.

"On top of this, trying to fund raise to go and work in a Vietnamese hospital, we also have to take out scrubs, gloves, masks, our own stethoscopes, hand sanitizer. "
