A WHITCHURCH supermarket has made a substantial donation to charity after a year of fundraising.

Sainsbury’s in Bargates invited their Charity of the Year partner, Dog A.I.D. in to the store on Wednesday, July 10 to present a final figure raised over the last twelve months.

Dog A.I.D are a Shropshire-based charity that specialises in helping people train their own dogs as assistance dogs.

Through their fundraising, staff at the store have raised £5,050.97 for the charity.

Julie Hatton, store manager, said: “We are so proud to have had Dogs A.I.D. as our charity. They deserve every penny raised.

"We wish them every success in the future, they are such an amazing team and we have had a fantastic partnership with them.

"I would also like to thank all our amazing customers for their support in helping us raise such a fantastic amount of money".

Mike McDonald, chief executive of Dog A.I.D. added: “A huge thank you to our friends at Sainsbury's Whitchurch, we’ve had a phenomenal year as the store’s Charity of the Year.

"We have thoroughly enjoyed building a long-lasting partnership and many new friends along the way of course, this is all down to how welcome we were made to feel by Julie and her team.

"Most importantly of all, however, I’d like to thank everyone in Whitchurch who embraced our charity with their usual warmth and supported us throughout the year – this generosity will make a big difference to people with disabilities, not just locally, but throughout the UK.

"We hope that in some way we have created more awareness of the work of assistance dogs and how they can help people who face very many challenges in their everyday lives.”
