A CHILDREN'S theatre group has performed to a sell out crowd in Wem.

Stage Door Youth, the young arm of Wem Amateur Dramatic and Operatic Society, staged a rendition of the Mary Green and Julie Stanley's Mystery at Magpie Manor at the Stage Door Theatre last week.

The musical was performed and under the direction of John Roberts and Lynn Pulford, as well as a number of parent and grandparent helpers.

"I'm really proud of the young group of budding actors," said director John Roberts. "This is the first time for many and they each acted their hearts out. Very well done".

The musical is set in the 1920's at the crumbling Magpie Manor, in which Lord Pica must sell a valuable pitcher in order to save the family seat, beginning the mystery.

Excellent performances by the cast, including Ben Sonders, Robyn Howard and Harry Liley.

This year also marks the 100th anniversary of the Wem Amateur Dramatic and Operatic Society as well as the 19th anniversary of the Stage Door Youth.
