A WHITCHURCH man has raised a substantial sum of money for charity by taking part in a long distance run.

Duncan Meredith ran a staggering 80km in aid of the Bradbury care centre, a day centre which provides much-needed care for vulnerable adults in our community.

The Shropshire Way Ultra is an 80km run and is to be completed within 13 hours.

The run starts in Ellesmere and then along the canal to Llanymynech, then onwards to Chirk, uphill climb past Chirk Castle, then along the Llangollen canal back to the finish line at Ellesmere.

Duncan raised a total of £1,408, which was presented to Bradbury Mandy Silvester, the Bradbury Care centre manager, yesterday.

Mandy expressed her grateful thanks and said the money will be used towards extending their range of activities for their service users with dementia-related illnesses, to include a pop-up vintage tea shop and a reminiscence pub.

Duncan said he was “very pleased” to be helping such a worthy and much-needed organisation in his local community.
