TWO communities in Gobowen have been raising money for good causes.

An afternoon tea was held at Gobowen Parish Hall to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness and the Shrewsbury Hamer Centre, meanwhile Gobowen Primary School were raising money for the preschool.

For the afternoon tea plenty of people gathered in a marquee set up in the grounds of the hall, which was put up for free by the owner especially for the event.

Several other companies and businesses also donated their time and resources to help make the afternoon a success.

Rachel Davidson, one of the organisers, said: "It's the third time we've held the event, inspired by mum's battle with cancer.

"She's quite an inspirational lady. Even through therapy she did this.

"Last year we raised £1,300. We're really pleased with the turnout, about the same as last year. A lot of the local community, friends and work colleagues are here.

Mean while across the road, families gathered to enjoy the fun and games on offer at Gobowen Primary School.

Visitors to the site got to enjoy various stalls and attractions, including a raffle, tombola, a bouncy castle and face painting, as well as tea and cake.

Ali Jones, event leader, said: "It's a funday to raise money for the preschool and the outdoor areas.

"It's the second year of running it and it's going really well. We're also taking the opportunity to show people around the school."
