WHITCHURCH Friday market has successfully completed the move to the main hall of the Civic Centre.

The trader supported move was recently approved by Whitchurch Town Council and will be trialled for six months.

The move sees traders migrating from the sports hall at the Civic Centre, to the main hall.

Cllr Bev Duffy said: "Everyone's very positive. It's cosy and homely, it's got a nice atmosphere.

"It's a good move and it's good for the town. We had a look what was happening and the market traders agreed that this was what they'd like to do.

"It's more homely, a positive move. Obviously we are encouraging more traders to join as well."

President of the National Market Traders Federation, Michael Nicholson, said: "It's our job to support market traders, it's nice to see a developing, improving market.

"Whitchurch joins a lot of other people in creating a new market. There's very good footfall, plenty of people are out.

"It's a very interesting development. It gives smaller, independent traders a home, with major supermarkets cutting back on their fresh fruit and veg and deli counters disappearing."
