WHITCHURCH Foodbank has emphasised the need for food donations to support struggling families through the school summer holidays.

The foodbank, in conjunction with local schools, is providing help to those families normally in receipt of free school meals who find the six week Summer Holidays particularly challenging.

More than 50 families in Whitchurch and surrounding areas – more than 100 children – have been referred to the foodbank who will be providing them with food to feed their children with a meal to replace the free school meal they would have received.

Each family will receive two food parcels – one at the end of the summer term and again on August 9.

The people of Whitchurch, Wem, Malpas and the local area generously provide donations of food throughout the year but the foodbank is particularly keen to receive specific items to satisfy this particular need of food for children’s lunches.

Donations can be placed in the collecting bins in Tesco and Sainsbury’s in Whitchurch or the Co-op in Wem.

They can also be brought direct to the Foodbank at Bargates Hall on a Tuesday or a Friday between 9.30am and 11.30am.

The food will be issued on two occasions, July 19 and August 9.
