The chairman of Llanymynech and Pant Parish Council has backed a petition calling for traffic lights at a dangerous crossroads.

The petition has been set up on change.org by Nicolle Evans calling for the lights after a series of accidents at Llynclys Crossroads, which splits the two villages and Oswestry.

And Councillor Dilys Gaskill, from the parish council, believes that anything to help improve road safety in the villages will be a good thing.

"I do support it yes – the history is that a few months ago we had three big accidents in the space of a short time," said Cllr Gaskill.

"That obviously got people up and wanting to do something about it so we as a parish council decided to collect information and put it on a Facebook page.

"We did think about a petition but in this political climate, we decided not to.

"But I did see the petition that had been set up and they have beaten us to it.

"Whether its a bypass or traffic lights, something has to be done and it has to be at the forefront of someone's thinking.

"The parish council has been looking at this since the 90s.

"And now its the size of the traffic as well as the volume, so the petition is a good idea to help.

"Anything that promotes the safety of the village is a good thing."

In her petition, Nicolle said: "There have been numerous accidents at Llynclys crossroads, some of which had fatalities.

"The speed limit was reduced but this has not helped the crossroads be any less dangerous."
