VISITORS to Audlem last weekend got the chance to enjoy the pleasant weather in the surroundings of beautiful gardens.

Adlem's garden open day was held on the weekend of June 22 and saw residents of the village open their gardens to members of the public to explore and enjoy.

The event was organised by Audlem and District Amenities Society (ADAS), a local charity celebrating its 50th year.

It was a great success for village residents and visitors alike with the furthest visitor travelling from Worthing in Sussex.

Chairman of ADAS, Neil Goodyear, said: "We were lucky with the weather considering the downpours of the preceding days.

"We had three hundred people over the two days with many taking advantage of a two day ticket to visit twelve gardens. There were also other free attractions that visitors enjoyed including a glass art and a photographic exhibition.

"Many visitors commented on the range of garden designs, sizes and plants on show that gave them inspiration for their own gardens, with many of them surprised at what lies behind a garden gate or wall."

Visitors were also able to take advantage of refreshments in some of the gardens or in cafes and pubs as well as free parking and free public toilets in the village centre.

All money raised by the open day will be spent on improving amenities in the village.
