HARDWORKING members of Whitchurch Rotary Club have been honoured by the out-going president at the club's AGM.

Two members of the Rotary Club, Howard Jones and Tony Birch, received commendation from club president Maggie Allen at last week's meeting.

President Maggie Allen awarded a Paul Harris Award to Howard Jones, one of the quietest but hardest working Rotarians, acknowledging all the work that Howard does in the background at all the club's events.

Paul Harris Awards are presented for outstanding work in the Rotary Club and Maggie surprised Howard at the recent club night with this tribute to him.

Mr Jones can typically be found dressed in red with a beard in December, on a canal boat in September, backstage at the concert, out putting the community alarms in peoples homes and often in Whitchurch Hospital visiting the patients.

The Davy Lamp meanwhile is presented to the person the president thinks has worked the hardest during their term. Ms Allen's choice this year was Community Service chairman, Tony Birch.

Shropshire councillor Peggy Mullock will now take over from Ms Allen as president of the Whitchurch Rotary Club.

"What a fantastic AGM and handover," said Ms Allen. "I cannot believe 12 months have gone so quick.

"I presented Tony Birch with the Davy Lamp which is presented every year to a well deserved Rotarian, also I presented to a well deserved Rotarian a Paul Harris award. Howard Jones is an unsung hero in our club.

"I have had a fantastic year and I wish I would have joined rotary years ago, what a great organisation. Well done to Peggy and I wish her all the best in her year as president."
