VOLUNTEERS at a Whitchurch charity shop will be honoured next week by the mayor of Whitchurch.

Mayor Bev Duffy will be attending a ceremony at the town's Headway shop, based in High Street, on June 17 to present certificates to volunteers who have dedicated their lives to helping brain injury survivors.

The mayor will show her support for the work of the charity by attending the awards ceremony to learn more about brain injury and how to better support survivors throughout the county.

Headway has more than 25 retail shops across the UK that help to raise the vital funds needed to continue supporting those with brain injuries, their friends, families and carers.

Sharon is just one of the Headway volunteers who will be awarded a certification of appreciation at the ceremony.

She said: "I love volunteering at the shop. I enjoy meeting new people and learning new skills that I can put towards a job in the future.

"Volunteering makes me feel part of the community and it's great being able to give back to others."

Mayor Bev Duffy, added: "I'm excited to attend the event and present the volunteers with their well-deserved awards.

"Volunteers such as these do a great deal of work for our community and we are all very grateful to them.

"I'm passionate about helping to raise awareness of brain injury and its effects, as well as raising the profile of Headway and the services and support the charity provides - I hope my involvement with the Headway Whitchurch shop will do just that."

The Mayor has also chosen Headway Shropshire, the county's local support group, as one of her Charities of the Year and has a number of events and activities planned throughout the year to help raise much-needed funds for the two groups.

Susan Sealy, Manager at the Headway Whitchurch shop, said: "It's an absolute honour for the Whitchurch shop to be recognised by its local mayor for its efforts to helping brain injury survivors. We're so grateful that the mayor will be attending this ceremony to give thanks to our hardworking volunteers."
